Community Health Educator Administrative Supplement Opportunity

We’re pleased to announce an upcoming funding opportunity to support a Community Health Educator (CHE) within NCI-supported community-based participatory research programs and the National Outreach Network (NON).  NCI intends to fund up to 17 CHE administrative supplements for $150,000 or $200,000 each for one year, with the intent to provide additional supplement opportunities in the future.

This supplement opportunity will provide resources for a full-time, dedicated CHE to expand NCI–supported community outreach capacity, such that cancer information is relevantly disseminated and researchers culturally engage study participants to foster recruitment and retention.  Relevant CHE activities that may be proposed include, but are not limited to, four key areas:

  • Conducting an assessment of national and local resources and networks;
  • Participating in CHE training (national and local);
  • Developing a long-term education/outreach plan to optimally address a local cancer health disparity issue via a CHE; and
  • (Optional Activity) Initiating education/outreach activities to address local cancer burden/disparity.

The CHE Administrative Supplement guidelines will be posted on the NIH Guide <http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/>  within the week.  Supplement requests must adhere to all the requirements specified in the Notice.

The following NCI programs will be eligible to apply for a CHE supplement:  CNP, CPRCHD (formerly MI/CCP), PNRP, CCOP, MB-CCOP, and the NCI-Designated Cancer Centers.
