Cancer Care in Massachusetts (CAMA)
Improving Cancer Care in Massachusetts (CAMA) is an example of a unique, collaborative project focused on translational research made possible by DF/HCC. Established projects include: - Tailored Information Project (TIP)
- Monitoring of cancer-care quality in real time
- Shared health records for communication and coordination of care
- Patient perceptions of quality of care and cancer information
CAMA resulted from a strategic planning process to identify opportunities to bring together investigators who had not collaborated previously to conduct research that would not be possible under traditional funding mechanisms. It was clear that if the expertise and experience represented in the program could be brought to bear on the barriers to providing high-quality cancer care, unique approaches to long-standing problems might become possible.
CAMA’s goals include developing a better understanding of the main impediments to delivering consistently high-quality cancer care and developing a comprehensive intervention and research program to achieve two main goals: - Improving the quality, comprehensiveness, and timeliness of data to assess cancer care
- Implementing systemwide changes to make cancer care more patient-centered and of consistently higher quality for all patients, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or location
