Carol L. Brown, MD, is a board-certified gynecologic oncologist who is the Director of the Office of Diversity Programs and the Associate Cancer Center Director for Diversity and Outreach at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. She holds academic appointments as Associate Attending Surgeon, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and Associate Professor, Obstetrics and

Gynecology at Cornell University Weill Medical College, New York, NY.  Dr. Brown’s career is focused in three areas; providing high-quality and compassionate surgical care to women with gynecologic cancer; the reduction and elimination of cancer health disparities experienced by medically underserved populations; and promoting public policy to increase awareness, improve care, and increase research funding for gynecologic and other cancers both locally and nationally.

Dr. Brown currently holds several national positions including Advisor for Special Populations for the Gynecologic Oncology Group, Chair of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ Delegation to the American Medical Association, and  member of the CDC’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Advisory Committee. She is a member of numerous professional societies including the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, the National Medical Association, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Brown is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is an examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Brown’s community activities include being Chair of the Communications Committee of the Foundation for Women’s Cancer, serving on the Board of Directors of S.H.A.R.E., Self-Help for women with Breast and Ovarian Cancer, and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention. Dr. Brown is the recipient of several awards, including Harvard University’s Joseph Garrison Parker Prize, the Malcolm X Memorial scholarship from Columbia University, the American Cancer Society Clinical Oncology  Career Development Award, and the Spirit of Hope Award.
