FAQ

FAQ

What is the process to use the facility?

  1. Establish contact with Core via e-mail or telephone (617-432-6465).
  2. Discuss project with appropriate facility specialist.
  3. Decide on extent of service provided and fill out request form.
  4. Sign contract for the service provided above and give either Cost Center or PO.
  5. Provide DNA or viruses for production

How do my samples get there?

Samples should be brought by the user directly to the facility.

How should I prepare my sample?

After consultation with a member of the facility, a formal request form should be filled out, which describes the preparation of virus to be amplified and/or the available sequence information for the DNA to used in the requested construction.  The request form will require contact person and billing (33 digit Harvard Billing Code, or the PO number if you are not on the Harvard Campus).

How long does it take?

The time for construction of specific DNAs is dependent upon the amount of DNA sequencing which needs to be done in order to verify the structure of the starting material, and the precise nature of the manipulations that need to be performed in order to generate the desired DNA construct.  In general, DNA constructions will require 2-4 weeks, while the production of research grade virus will require 2-6 weeks, depending on the virus.  In the case of clinical grade virus, 3-6 months are typically necessary in order to secure the appropriate tests of the material.

How do I know my samples are processed?

An e-mail will be sent to the contact person as soon as the DNA constructs or viruses are successfully produced.

How do I get my samples back?

Upon notification of completion of the DNA construct or virus, the investigator will pick up the reagent from the Vector Core Facility.

How am I billed?

Users are billed using either a 33 digit Harvard account number or a PO number.

What is the user feedback process?
