Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) is one of the two academic centers of DF/HCC. For many years, it has been the academic home to epidemiologists, biostatisticians, behavioral scientists, nutrition science experts, biologists, radiation biologists, and other investigators with a deep interest and expertise in cancer research. Many of these investigators also have affiliated hospital appointments. Like Harvard Medical School (HMS), its record of accomplishment in the field is long. In joining DF/HCC, it brings to the Center's activities increased depth of understanding and accomplishiment in cancer epidemiology and behavioral research. Moreover, HSPH is the home of the Harvard Center for Cancer Prevention (HCCP), a consortium of investigators of various expertise, led by Dr. David Hunter, who are, specifically, working on the cancer prevention problem. It is the central Harvard focus for the development of ideas and technologies that can lead to new cancer prevention research and trials. HCCP has provided administrative support for the organization of the population science within DF/HCC, and its breast and prostate cancer working groups have integrated into their respective DF/HCC programs.
