Research Abstract

Dr. Ayanian's research focuses on access to care and quality of care for people with colorectal cancer, lung cancer, or breast cancer. He is the Principal Investigator of the Harvard/Northern California site for the Cancer Care Outcomes Research and Surveillance (CanCORS) Consortium, a large national study of the treatment and outcomes of people with colorectal cancer or lung cancer funded by the National Cancer Institute. He is also the Principal Investigator of two studies funded by the National Cancer Institute to implement and evaluate randomized interventions to promote colorectal cancer screening and to encourage surveillance for colorectal adenomas, respectively, using electronic clinical information systems. He has previously been a member of the Institute of Medicine Committee on Cancer Survivorship and Chair of the National Quality Forum's Colorectal Cancer Technical Panel for evaluating quality of cancer care measures. He currently leads the DF/HCC Outcomes Research Program and directs the DF/HCC "Improving Cancer Care in Massachusetts" (CAMA) project.
