The Cancer Genetics Program supports discovery of new genes and cellular pathways implicated in cancer, enhancing understanding of how germline genetic variations and somatic mutations affect the genesis and progression of cancer. The Program seeks to facilitate translational application of these findings, first to clinical research in oncology, then to patient care.
The Cancer Genetics Program comprises laboratory-based investigators, clinical researchers, and epidemiologists focused on the genetic etiology of cancer, including: genetic predisposition; genetic alterations implicated in cancer progression and metastasis; use of genetic markers in detection, classification and prognosis; and management of patients with familial cancer syndromes.
The Cancer Genetics Program has three goals:
