Clinical and Pathological Predictors for Recurrence after DCIS - Stuart Schnitt (BIDMC)
Connection: Facilitated contact between the DF/HCC investigators and the CRN, identified collaborators.
Access: Provided access to a large CRN population resulting in a study of 3,600 women with DCIS (the largest study of its type ever undertaken).
Support: Provided preliminary data needed for the preparation of the proposal.
Results: NCI proposal funded with budget > $3.5 million. This study is the first to explore the link between basic and population research within our community practice settings.
Cancer Prevention Through Health Centers (Healthy Directions) - K. Emmons (DFCI)
Connection: Matched investigators to HVMA collaborator.
Access: Provided access to needed population of approximately 2,000 patients (40% minority) and 100 physicians.
Support: Met with investigators, provided consultation services, facilitated contact with 10 HVMA sites
Results: NCI cancer prevention proposal funded with budget > $2.9 million.
Intervention led to 3 publications. Two pilot studies have evolved and a follow-up RO1 will be resubmitted in July 2005.
National Lung Screening Trial – P. Costello (BWH)
Connection: Identified a local co-investigator and facilitated contact with members of HVMA.
Access: Obtained list of 9,000 HVMA smokers and provided contact information for those members.
Support: Completed required IRB/HIPAA protocols.
Result: Research team able to meet its recruitment goal within 6 weeks.
