Breast SPORE projects fall into two broad categories:

Treatment: projects that start with a clinical trial and develop biological questions designed to improve treatment outcome.

• BRCA1-associated and basal-like breast cancer
  Co-Principal Investigators: Daniel Silver, MD, PhD (DFCI) and Andrea Richardson, MD, PhD (BWH)
• Combination therapy for HER2-positive breast cancer
  Co-Principal Investigators: Eric Winer, MD (DFCI) and Thomas Roberts, MD (MGH)
• Co-activators of the estrogen receptor and resistance to endocrine therapy
  Co-Principal Investigators: Steven E. Come, MD (BIDMC) and Myles Brown, MD (DFCI)

Tissues: projects that begin with a biological question about breast cancer and attempt to answer that question by studying patients, their cells, and their tissues.

• The influence of tumor-stromal cell interactions

• Discovering susceptibility factors by interactions between functional screening and population studies
