Research Abstract

As a demographer, sociologist, and gerontologist, my research interests include a focus on health disparities, especially within the older population. My interests in cancer revolve around how disparities in health outcomes are linked to communication processes, including language barriers between English-speaking providers and patient populations who have limited English language proficiency. I am also interested in the role of medical interpreters in medical encounters, and the extent to which interpreters shape medical decision-making.
