Research Abstract

Dr. Reid Ponte is a co-Principal Investigator on a study funded by the Commonwealth Fund and the National Patient Safety Foundation entitled "The Role of Patient and Clinician Champions as Safety Advocates in Adult Ambulatory Multidisciplinary Practice Settings". This study focuses on Patient Safety Rounds and the intervention of clinician and patient champions to this process. It compares and evaluates two models of team composition. It examines patient safety outcomes associated with the use of 1) clinician champions and 2) patient/family safety liaisons, each acting as safety advocates within the context of a multidisciplinary health care team in the outpatient setting of an oncology infusion clinic.
