Research Abstract

I received my MD degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, and an M.P.H. at Harvard School of Public Health. I completed training in internal medicine at MGH, and completed a fellowship in general medicine at HMS. I am the Director of MGH Primary Care Practice-Based Research & Quality Improvement Network and Medical Director for Primary Care Population Health Management in the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization. I practice adult internal medicine in Internal Medicine Associates at MGH. My research involves examining how health information technology can support redesign of care delivery and provider workflow to improve outcomes as well as decreases disparities in care. A major focus of this work is the development, implementation and evaluation of population management systems to transform the delivery of preventive cancer screening. I was the co-principal investigator on an NCI funded randomized controlled study to evaluate the value of health information technology that provided decision support to efficiently leverage the unique knowledge clinicians have about their patients to enhance preventive breast cancer screening. I was principal investigator of an AHRQ funded randomized controlled study examining health information technology to improve comprehensive preventive cancer screening within a large primary care network. My work has also focused on reducing disparities in cancer screening within primary care networks.
