Research Abstract

The primary focus of our laboratory is matrix biology research. In the last five years we have focused our attention to the understanding of the role of vascular basement membranes (VBM) in the regulation of angiogenesis and tumor growth. Our laboratory has discovered seven new VBM-derived endogenous inhibitors of angiogenesis and tumor growth. Additionally, the role of epithelial-mesenchymal transdifferentiation (EMT), stromal-endothelial interaction in the progression of cancer is being investigated in the laboratory. Complex interactions of vascular cells and matrix components in the tumor microenvironment are being systemically evaluated.
