Research Abstract

Our laboratory at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center investigates the molecular and cellular basis of cancer progression in humans, with an eye towards translating findings into new diagnostic and treatment strategies. We use DNA, transcriptional, and proteomic profiling tools to generate genome-wide views of human cancer; emerging methods in stem cell biology and tissue engineering to experimentally model cancer progression in vitro and in vivo; genetic and chemical probes and advanced cellular imaging to functionally study identified genes and pathways; and computational biology and statistics for the in silico integration and analysis of this complex data stream. A major goal is to identify genes that are necessary for the survival of advanced tumors, to guide the development and clinical use of newer-generation cancer drugs and diagnostics.
