Physician Liason, Initiative to Eliminate Cancer Disparities

Research Abstract

I am primarily interested in racial and class disparities in cancer care. The increased awareness of the effectiveness of therapy for various cancers has exacerbated a treatment gap in cancer care by race, and with African Americans having higher incidence of prostate, colon, lung cancer, head and neck cancer and esophageal cancer it is incumbent upon providers to attempt to narrow the treatment gap. Currently we are utilizing large administrative databases to document disparities and generate effective strategies to combat them. Future areas of interest involve examination of physician-paitent interaction and expectations. Area of clinical interest is thoracic oncology.
