Research Abstract

I am interested to determine if there are specific patterns of RNA expression in the blood that are predictive of different disease states. This is based on the Sentinel Principle in which the blood, which is in contact with all ofthe tissues, will be affected by alterations in the tissue. We have preliminary data to show that it is possible to differentiate between patients with prostate cancer from patients without cancer using this technique, and it is hoped with refinement to become a better predictor than serum PSA measurements. It may also be possible using this technique to develop a diagnostic test for colon and/or breast cancer
