Research Abstract

In my translational research laboratory I investigate the mechanisms of kidney injury and repair. Our mission is to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms of this process in order to identify new therapeutic strategies for humans suffering from kidney disease. One particular focus is the role of the hedgehog signaling pathway in kidney homeostasis and injury. In separate studies, we use genetic lineage analysis and RNA-sequencing approaches to define cellular hierarchies and catalog gene expression changes in individual cell types during kidney injury. We use in vitro approaches, mouse genetic models and human studies. My clinical specialty is Onco-Nephrology - kidney disease associated with cancer and its treatment, and I investigate the mechanisms of targeted therapy-induced kidney toxicity in humans, including hypertension and proteinuria.
