Research Abstract

The rationale for my ongoing project ‘Genomic Profiling of Non Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) For Personalized Targeted Therapy Using CT-Guided Transthoracic Needle Biopsy (TTNB): Technological Assessment, And Clinical Outcomes’ is that, once high yield CT-guided core biopsy becomes available, the efficacy of genomic profiling will increase and facilitate accurate and timely treatment choices, changing the paradigm of lung cancer research. I have the expertise, leadership and motivation necessary to successfully carry out the proposed work. . I am the lead person for Image guided Lung Biopsies at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and collaborate with Dr. Bruce E. Johnson on the Genomic Initiative project; the purpose of the Genomics Initiative by the DFCI is to provide the context for introducing personalized medicine into the treatment of lung cancer. I am currently involved in performing CT-guided transthoracic needle biopsies for Genomic Profiling of Lung Cancer and collaborate with the oncologists, surgeons and radiation oncologists on a clinical and research basis. My research interest also includes evaluation of gender differences in Lung Cancer. As part of the International mesothelioma program, I am also invloved in Imaging of Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma.
