Research Abstract
Dr. Hu's research is focused on determinants and consequences of obesity and type 2 diabetes. He is the Principal Investigator of the diabetes component of the Nurses' Health Study. He has extensive experience in investigating nutritional, biochemical, environmental, and genetic factors of diabetes and its cardiovascular complications. Dr. Hu has published more than 400 original papers and reviews and is the principle author of the textbook “Obesity Epidemiology” (Oxford University Press 2008). He is Co-Director of Program in Obesity Epidemiology and Prevention at Harvard and also serves as Director of Epidemiology and Genetics Core at Boston Obesity Nutrition Research Center. Dr. Hu currently serves on the Obesity Guideline Expert Panel at NHLBI and Gene, Environment Association Studies (GENEVA) Steering Committee at NHGRI. He is the receipt of the 2010 Kelly West Award in Outstanding Achievement in Diabetes Epidemiology. As a co-investigator for the current project, Dr. Hu will share his tremendous expertise and experiences in diabetes research with the PI, Dr. Grandjean, and will primarily contribute to epidemiologic study design, statistical analysis, and result interpretation.
