Research Abstract

I received my MD degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, and an M.P.H. at Harvard School of Public Health. I completed training in internal medicine at MGH, and completed a fellowship in general medicine at HMS. My research focuses on quality improvement efforts to understand patterns of care for patients seen in primary care networks and to create new ways to manage these patients. At MGH, I have been actively involved in translating findings from clinical research to improved quality and efficiency of care. I am the Director of MGH Primary Care Practice-Based Research & Quality Improvement Network responsible for quality measurement, reporting and improvement activities in the hospital’s outpatient primary care practices. Prior work has involved developing a methodology to connect patients to physicians and practices within primary care networks. Ongoing research focuses on using population-based methods to link patients and providers with new systems of care to deliver preventive services. As part of these efforts, I have focused on the delivery of preventive care services, specifically cancer prevention testing, within primary care systems. I was the co-principal investigator on an NCI funded (NCI R21 CA121908-01) randomized controlled study to evaluate the value of an IT system that provides decision support to efficiently leverage the unique knowledge clinicians have about their patients to enhance preventive breast cancer screening. I am currently principal investigator of a study examining health information technology to improve comprehensive preventive cancer screening (AHRQ R18 HS018161).
