Research Abstract

Dr. Brian Nahed's research focuses on identifying circulating tumor cells in brain tumor patients.

Dr. Brian Nahed is a Neurosurgeon and Assistant Professor at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. His clinical interests focus on brain tumors (particularly glioma, glioblastoma, metastatic carcinoma, and meningioma) metastasis. As a surgeon-scientist, under the mentorship of Daniel Haber and Shyamala Maheswaran at the MGH Cancer Center, Dr. Brian Nahed and Dr. James Sullivan are part of the team who have developed the first device to capture brain tumor cells in the blood of patients; with the goal to develop the first real-time test to monitor molecular and genetic changes during the course of treatment.

In addition to Dr. Brian Nahed's clinical and research efforts, he teaches neurosurgery, neuroanatomy, and the socioeconomics of health care. As an active committee member of the Council of State Neurological Societies, Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, Dr. Nahed also is researching socioeconomic, cost-effectiveness and health policy in Neurosurgery.
