Research Abstract

Our research program is focused on the construction and characterization of mouse models of malignant melanoma harboring genetic alterations identified in human melanomas. Such models serve as a means of dissecting the phenotypic transitions of evolving tumors and of identifying new genetic loci and genes governing genesis and progression. The development of inducible oncogene expression models has also afforded us with an opportunity to examine the role of such oncogenes in tumor maintenance, particularly as it relates to host-tumor interactions. Ultimately, the lessons learned from the mouse systm are corrlated with findings in human melanomas with the goal of devloping prognostic markers and new targets for drug development.
