Research Abstract
Dr. Whiteley's research interests are in the areas of prevention, women's health, health behavior change, physical activity promotion, smoking cessation, Internet technology, and the dissemination of health behavior change interventions. Dr. Whiteley is currently a PI on a NCI grant entitled "Smoking Cessation for Women at Risk of Cervical Cancer." This study utilizes physical activity as a smoking cessation aid for diverse population of women at risk for developing cervical cancer. She has been a Co-Investigator on several research studies evaluating various delivery modalities of physical activity promotion, including, print, telephone, and Internet-based programs as well as a study to disseminate a smoking cessation program in YMCAs. Dr. Whiteley will continue her work in the prevention of cancer and disease through the promotion of lifestyle change interventions with an emphasis on developing interventions for women that are theory-based and have the capability of being disseminated to larger populations.
