Research Abstract
Research in my laboratory consists of four projects covering three major themes. Two projects are focused on understanding how plant growth is influenced by physical and chemical environments. More specifically, the laboratory is studying how plants respond to and biodegrade the petroleum pollutants polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and how cell division contributes to growth responses to light cues. A third project focuses on studying the roles of the motor proteins kinesins in organ development, while a forth project is a multi-disciplinary multi-investigator (including collaborations with Drs. Dukes, Kesseli, and Shiaris of UMass Boston) focusing on understanding bacterial-plant interactions in the rhizosphere of plants. All four projects use molecular, cellular and genetic tools to study growth control during development of the plant model system Arabidopsis thaliana (transgenic plant lines are available with all projects).
