Research Abstract

My research interests are clinical in the field of supportive care for children with cancer. In particular, I am interested in such aspects as management of fever and neutropenia, use of growth factors, and transfusion support, with an emphasis on outcomes research including quality of life outcomes. I am currently the PI on a pilot study of early discharge to home-based intravenous antibiotics for children with low-risk fever and neutropenia which looks at traditional medical outcomes as well as quality of life and economic measures. Also, I am designing a study which will look at genetic polymorphisms of immune response modifiers which may play a role in the individual's "innate" risk of fever and neutropenia or significant infections/complications. I am a "young investigator" on the Epidemiology Committee of the Children's Oncology Group, an active participant in the Pediatric Hodgkin's Disease Consortium, which conducts multi-center clinical trials, and a subcommittee leader (psychosocial/outcomes research) for the Childhood Cancer Survivor Program in Development.
