DF/HCC New Member
Hi my name is Al Charest. I am an associate professor at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, and I recently joined the DF/HCC Neuro-Oncology Program. My laboratory is interested in primary brain cancer with a focus on cancer genetics and tumor immune microenvironment.
We study glioblastoma multiforme, which is a form of brain cancer that is intractable therapeutically and we utilize genetically engineered mouse models that are based on very common mutations that we observe in patient populations. Using these animals, we study the tumor-immune microenvironment, these are cells that are infiltrating the tumors. And we particularly are interested in understanding how different genetic mutations within the tumor cells themselves modify the immune cells coming into the tumors, and how those immune cells in turn, affect the outcome or the responses of those patients to standard of care therapy.
