Training Program in Molecular Hematology

The goal of the Harvard Medical School training program is to prepare graduate students or individuals with MD, PhD or combined degrees for a career in Hematology research. Sixty faculty members from HMS and its affiliated hospitals were selected from the thousands of potential faculty preceptors who work at HMS to participate in the program.  While a major focus of the grant is on the training of future physician-scientists, an increasing number of the most talented and productive postdoctoral trainees have been biomedical scientists with a PhD degree. In addition, we have made a commitment to help train graduate students in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences at HMS who are seeking their PhD, as well as minority students exploring a career in biomedical science.

Levels of training:
    12 postdoctoral slots
    6 predoctoral slots

Length of training:
Postdoctoral - up to 3 years
Predoctoral - up to 5 years

Eligibility: Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must be accepted by the grant steering committee from a competitive search. Applicants should have a compelling need for training as well as a high quality scientific project in the general area of Hematology.  We are looking for superb candidates who are likely to remain in the field and become scientific leaders.

Application Deadline: Rolling admission. When slots are available a “call for candidates” is sent to the preceptors in the area.

Application Components:
Preceptors nominate candidates in a letter accompanied by a CV; this is sent to the program director for consideration by the steering committee.
The application should consist of a detailed letter from one of the potential laboratory sponsors outlining the candidate’s accomplishments, project, and potential as a scientist, and an up-to-date curriculum vitae.

Stipend: A stipend and tuition/fees, travel and training related expenses are provided.
