Name Change: Office for the Protection of Research Subjects (OPRS)
Effective September 1, 2008, the name of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center's Office for the Protection of Research Subjects (OPRS) changed to the Office for Human Research Studies (OHRS). Around the country, OPRS is typically the office that handles IRB review only, and this caused confusion with sponsors and reviewers.
As you know, OHRS has several responsibilities, including:
- scientific protocol review (Scientific Review Committees)
- IRB review
- HIPAA, as it relates to human research
- protocol activation
OHRS has also been restructured into three distinct divisions to enhance our service to you and improve internal efficiencies. They are: Protocol Review and Monitoring; Institutional Review Board Review; and Privacy Review. These changes will have no visible impact.
Please note that it will take some time for all web references, forms, and documents to reflect the new name.
