NCI Center for Global Health

Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to share with you news of changes in the NCI Office of International Affairs, Office of Latin American Cancer Program Development, Office of China Cancer Programs, and the NCI Liaison Office in Brussels. In September 2011, Dr. Harold Varmus created the NCI Center for Global Health (CGH) and appointed me director of the center.  The resources, staff, and key activities of the offices listed above were combined and are now housed under the CGH.  This organizational change will help coordinate NCIís global portfolio and support the open exchange of scientific and clinical knowledge.

The NCI remains committed to research efforts to decrease the global burden of cancer, and staff members from the will continue their work with people from other U.S. government agencies, foreign governments, non-government organizations, and pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to address the challenges of cancer worldwide.  We are confident this reorganization will enhance efforts in planning, prioritizing, and stimulating global cancer research to leverage the most promising research opportunities.

Please see the attached a fact sheet about the Center for Global Health for additional information. If you have questions or comments about these organizational changes, please feel free to contact us at nciglobalhealth@mail.nih.gov <mailto:nciglobalhealth@mail.nih.gov> .

Respectfully,

Edward L. Trimble, MD, MPH
