Cultural Competence in Research Symposium featuring the Bok Players, November 15, 2012

Registration Open: Cultural Competence in Research Symposium

Through interactive academic theater, a panel of clinical research, IRB, and subject advocacy experts and the experiences of audience, this event will generate a thoughtful and robust dialogue on the nuances of working with diverse communities in clinical and translational research. This free event will engage participants via the Bok Players – an interactive theatre group serving academia – who will facilitate an interactive discussion and Q&A session.

This is an interactive learning experience with the Bok Players which will explore complex issues such as:

  • engaging diverse communities in research, establishing trust across cultures
  • respecting the diversity of communities
  • obtaining consent from diverse populations
  • encouraging minority accrual in clinical research
  • dealing with unconscious personal bias and stereotyping.

Following each performance, the Bok Players will facilitate an interactive discussion and Q&A session. These discussions will be supplemented by a panel of experts representing human subject protection/research regulations (IRB Administrator-Sarah Harnish), research subject advocacy (Research Subject Advocacy Director, Dr. Enrico Cagliero), research nursing (Linda Godfrey-Bailey, Nurse Director of the BIDMC CRC), and the research subject experience (a past research subject).
