Core 5: Genomic Data and Bioinformatics

The purpose of the Genomics Data and Bioinformatics Core is to provide a common repository for high-dimensional datasets generated by SPORE investigators and a portal for communicating these data to the larger research community by posting datasets with varying degrees of privacy and security.  The goal is to create a tool for the communication of data that is shared throughout the research community.

High throughput genomic experiments have become commonplace and have evolved into an essential component of many cancer research projects.  The Core has embarked on the SDGI project in order to get a handle on all the genomic data that is becoming increasingly available.  The SDGI project is intended to provide a software framework that will allow for developing methodologies for meta-analysis of biological data.

Developments:
• Creation of a software infrastructure enabling researchers to store and extract genomic data,
• allowing for selection of data across multiple datasets of varying microarray chip types,
• selecting samples via an ontological vocabulary standard that is able to map like terms found in the clinical annotations.
