SPOREsSkinCores
Description
The purpose of the Administration, Evaluation, and Planning Core is to assure the continued coordination of the Harvard Skin Cancer SPORE Projects, Cores, and Developmental Programs, and to provide oversight and leadership of the scientific, administrative and fiscal aspects of the SPORE. Research in the Harvard Skin Cancer SPORE is performed in five separate institutions, and is part of the Melanoma and Cutaneous Oncology Program (MCOP) of the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center. Within the Harvard Skin Cancer SPORE, there are several layers of oversight and evaluation. Dr. Kupper, the SPORE Director, is committed to its success and will continue to personally monitor the progress of the Projects and Cores, the Career Development and Developmental Project Programs, and other proposed activities. As both SPORE Director and Leader of the MCOP, he has the authority and resources to ensure the success of this SPORE. In this proposal, Dr. Kupper is assisted by three co-PI’s. SPORE Co-PI Michael Atkins (BIDMC) will continue in this role, and Drs. Lynda Chin (DFCI) and Lyn Duncan (MGH) have assumed the positions of co-PIs of the Skin Cancer SPORE. Together, they will assist Dr. Kupper in issues related to resource allocation for translational science activities within the SPORE as a whole, as well as at their respective institutions. In addition, Dr. Atkins and Chin will oversee the Developmental Projects Program, while Dr. Duncan (with SPORE investigator Dr. Levi Garraway) will oversee the Career Development Award Program. The Specific aims of the Administration, Evaluation and Planning Core are to: 1) Monitor Research Progress, 2) Provide Necessary Resources and Fiscal Oversight for the SPORE, 3) Foster Collaborative Research within the Skin Cancer SPORE and with other SPOREs (both inside and outside DF/HCC) 4) Integrate the DF/HCC Skin Cancer SPORE into the Structure of DF/HCC; 5) Promote Rapid Dissemination of Significant Research Findings, and 6) Encourage New Investigator Participation in Skin Cancer Research (laboratory, population, translational, and clinical).
