Message from the Director

In medical research, a powerful disease deserves nothing less than a powerful response. In 1998, seven Harvard-affiliated institutions, each renowned in their own right in the fight against cancer, joined together to create an unparalleled team effort — the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center.

Today, more than 1,000 experts work within the vast network of DF/HCC physicians and scientists. As a team, they are better able to rapidly translate insights learned in the laboratory into exciting new treatments. They are pooling information about specific cancers — breast, lung, prostate, gynecologic, and many others – to find new ways to diagnose and treat those cancers. They are deciphering genetic codes to find the reason why some cells become cancerous and how to slow or stop that process.

Patients who seek cancer care at our member institutions can be assured they have access to the most advanced treatments available anywhere. Ultimately, as DF/HCC investigators set new standards in cancer care, patients worldwide will benefit. In this web site, we invite patients, families, and the general public to see how the unique collaboration of DF/HCC is bringing every resource to bear on a challenging disease, setting the stage for exciting progress in laboratory discovery and patient care.

Resources for Patients

Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center is primarily a research entity, but patient care is also a key part of our program. To help patients and families access our extensive system of care, our member institutions provide a wide range of resources — online information about medical conditions, support groups, assistance with travel and accommodations, videos and other multimedia services, and much more.
