Research Abstract
My research related to cancer has focused on the interaction between health care providers and community members. Specific research questions include: (1) What shapes treatment orientations of health care providers and community members and what are the consequences of these orientations? (2) What structural and personal factors influence the response of community members to case managers and other types of community health workers? (3) How do institutional and community social contexts shape the delivery of health care and reactions to health care? My NCI-funded research evaluated the impact of a training program about clinical trials for Community Health Workers. I have also investigated the role of immigrant background and other factors in relation to satisfaction with health care experiences.
