Research Abstract

I am a gynecologic oncologist who focuses on improving the care of women with gynecological malignancies, particularly in developing countries. I have had extensive experience in the clinical management of gynecologic cancers, gynecologic cancer clinical trials and quality improvement in cancer care and surgery. My focus in the US is on the appropriate use of minimally invasive radical cancer surgery and the multi-disciplinary management of gynecologic cancer patients. I have collaborated on multiple outcomes studies in gynecologic cancers including two R01 funded investigations of disparities and quality of care in endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer. Currently, I spend part of my time working for the National Cancer Institute’s Center for Global Health as an expert in cervical cancer, HPV associated disease, and global surgery. My focus is on the delivery of cervical cancer care, patterns of surgical care, and novel strategies in screening for HPV related malignancies in resource limited settings. This work is funded by the NIH under an Intergovernmental Personnel Act Agreement. In addition, I coordinate the global oncology activities of the Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center. The remainder of my effort is dedicated to helping with investigations and outreach efforts by the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Botswana, Uganda, and Bangladesh.
