Research Abstract
Research focuses on the diagnosis and amelioration of late cardiac effects in cancer survivors and understanding treatment-related cardiac effects in patients currently undergoing cancer treatment. Ongoing studies include: 1) the use of noninvasive imaging to detect and manage and prognosticate radiation-induced heart disease in long-term Hodgkin’s Disease survivors and 2) the cardiac effects of novel cancer therapies in children. Previous research, supported by the American Heart Association, first developed novel radiation therapy technique of inspiratory maneuvers to decrease cardiac radiation in women undergoing breast cancer treatment. Additional interests include assessing health disparities of diverse populations.
