Research Abstract
In the Giannakis lab, we are studying the pathogenesis, genomics and the tumor microenvironment of colorectal cancer. To this end, we are using a multitude of approaches including immunogenomic, microbiomic and pathologic analyses to study patient-derived specimens and are generating organoid models for functional studies. One particular research focus of our group is to further elucidate the role of RNF43 in colorectal cancer pathogenesis and immunomodulation. We are also integrating sequencing, pathologic, microbial and epidemiologic data from large prospective studies to gain insights into the interplay of colorectal cancer with lifestyle factors. Our goal is to translate these findings into novel treatment and prevention strategies for patients with colorectal cancer.
