Research Abstract

Dr. Christopher Manz completed his internal medicine internship and residency in 2015, his fellowship in medical oncology in 2020 and his master’s in the science of health policy research in 2020, all at the University of Pennsylvania. Since 2020, he has been a medical oncologist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital where he specializes in the treatment of patients with gastrointestinal cancers.

He conducts health services research mostly aimed at improving cancer care quality while improving disparities in cancer outcomes, particularly for patients who have experienced incarceration. He has also developed novel mechanisms to promote communication between patients and their oncology team to improve goal-concordant, high-quality care near the end of life. Finally, he conducts research that examines the way that health care policy, particularly payment policy, influences cancer disparities and how such policies can be modified to improve health equity.
