Research Abstract

My research interests include the application of cytology and cytologic methods, including fine needle aspiration and Pap testing, to cancer diagnosis and treatment response. Particular interests include thyroid cancer and related diseases, cervical cancer, mesothelioma, sarcoma, and lung cancer. We have demonstrated the value of cytogenetics and molecular cytogenetics as adjuncts to diagnostic cytology and have investigated the ability to use cytologic preparations to monitor treatment response. More recently, we have implemented the CellSearch instrument for enumerating circulating tumor cells and have embarked on collaborative studies to evaluate their clinical significance as well as their value in understanding the molecular mechanisms of metastasis.
