Research Abstract
My research has been in three general areas: epidemiology of chronic diseases, gastrointestinal pathology, and cytopathology. I published the first systemic epidemiology studies on lymphomatoid papulosis. My study established the close relationship and quantitated the relative risk between lymphomatoid papulosis and Hodgkin’s disease and other lymphomas. Subsequent to the case-control study, I followed these patients and showed that these lymphomatoid papulosis patients had an increased risk of developing malignancies and lymphomas. My research in GI pathology has been focused on microscopic colitis and Barrett’s-associated esophageal adenocarcinoma. My collaborations with various investigators resulted in many publications on the prognostic factors of esophageal adenocarcinoma as well as on the precursor lesions of this Barrett’s-associated adenocarcinoma. My research in cytopathology has been focused on thyroid FNA, breast FNA, gastrointestinal cytopathology and the evaluation of cost-effectiveness of different preparation and processing methods in cytology.
