13 IECD Students will Present at ABRCMS Conference

By Rosemary Nabukeera | DF/HCC Communications

This year, 13 students from several of the students training programs run through Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center’s Initiative to Eliminate Cancer Disparities (IECD), will present at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS) between November 13-16. IECD connects across all seven DF/HCC member institutions to advance DF/HCC’s commitment to reducing cancer disparities. Within this initiative are three training programs: Yes for Cure, a three-year training program for high school and undergraduate students; SPARC, a 12-week intensive research experience for UMass-Boston and affiliated community college students; and CURE, a summer only 8-12 week program for high school and undergraduate students.

The training of students within these three programs is made possible thanks to the zealous efforts of the mentors. In fact, on November 5 of this year, a Mentor Reception and Recruitment Reception will be held at DFCI's Yawkey Conference Center. Cancer Center Director Laurie Glimcher, MD will provide opening remarks and mentor awards will be given as a token of appreciation.
