CURE Jimmy Fund Walk 2025
Published 10/21/2025
On Sunday, October 5th, 2025, the Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center'sContinuing Umbrella of Research Experiences (CURE) Program came together to celebrate the legacy of the CURE Program at the Jimmy Fund Walk. Despite the heat on Sunday, ten members of the team showed up to demonstrate their support of the next generation of cancer researchers by walking a length of the iconic Boston Marathon route, with seven people walking a full 10k together! Walkers included alumni and current students of the CURE Program in addition to friends, family, and CURE staff. When the sun turned up the heat, rather than shy away, the CURE team walked united in their mission, putting one foot in front of the other to make a change. This could not have been accomplished without the generosity of folks who donated to the CURE program in support of their mission and walk.
The impact of the CURE Program has been profound. How better to hear this than in their own words:
For 23 summers, the CURE Program has been a launching pad for the next generation of cancer researchers, clinicians, and public health leaders. With over 750 students trained, the impact speaks for itself: 89% of those in the workforce pursue careers in medicine, biomedical research, and public health; all dedicated to advancing science and improving patient outcomes.
By donating, you're investing in a program that provides opportunities for young biomedical scientists whose work is essential to innovations in cancer prevention, care, and survivorship. Your support ensures that future scholars have the mentorship, training, and opportunities needed to drive meaningful change in cancer research and healthcare.
Join us in showing that representation matters, that opportunity changes lives, and that together, we can defy cancer.
The team is grateful for all who supported before and during the walk. The kind words, reflections, and donations helped motivate each step, and every supporter – from current students and alumni, their families and friends, to mentors and staff – emphasized the importance of the CURE Program. Their mission and work continues beyond the pavement and mile markers and they are accepting donations in support of the CURE Program's mission until 10/31/2025. Donating will help enable the CURE Program to continue to offer life changing mentoring, training, and opportunities for young scientists. All funds raised go directly to CURE, the DF/HCC student training programming.
CURE supports the next generation of biomedical innovators via several different tracks: a 2-month paid summer research placement (the CURE program), a 2.5-year training initiative (the YES for CURE Program), or a paid, full-time post-baccalaureate experience in the Post-Bacc program. The nature of the CURE Program is unique in the way that you can make an impact. Each time you donate or mentor, or if you decide to walk next year, know that you are making a marked difference that will be felt not only by the CURE Team who work to provide these opportunities to young scientists, but also to the students themselves who value your support. If you cannot donate or mentor, consider sharing stories like this one with other folks who might be interested as we seek to empower young scientists.
