Newest Co-Director of the HCC Bioinformatics Training Core

HCC would like to announce the new Co-Director of the Bioinformatics Training Core.
Will Gammerdinger was appointed as the newest Co-Director of the Harvard Cancer Consortium Bioinformatics Training Core, starting his role in July 2025.

Will serves as a bioinformatics trainer and research consultant at the HCC Bioinformatics Training Core. He completed his PhD at the University of Maryland (UMD) at College Park while studying the evolution of sex chromosomes within African Cichlids. During his time at UMD, Will also completed a CIRTL certification that included assessing the impact of pre-lecture reading in the undergraduate classroom. Following his PhD, he carried out post-doctoral research at the Institute of Science and Technology - Austria evaluating the evolution of sexual conflict following a whole genome duplication event within Cyprinids. Will's interests include increasing accessibility to bioinformatics tools and resources, improving pedagogy within universities and the implementation of bioinformatics utilities to a wide variety of applications.

After taking over for outgoing director Meeta Mistry in July 2025, Will assumed the responsibility of maintaining the Core’s training program. Now, as he co-leads the Bioinformatics Training Core with Shannan Ho Sui, PhD, Will is set to further enhance the program's reach and effectiveness, reflecting his commitment to expanding bioinformatics capacity and strengthening analytical capabilities across the cancer research community. He will continue to implement evidence-based teaching and learning practices to carry out high-quality training opportunities focused on state-of-the-art and evolving methods within the bioinformatics field.
