Funding opportunity for NCI Early Career Cancer Clinical Investigator Award

NCI is requesting applications for the Early Career Cancer Clinical Investigator Award (ECIA). The ECIA recognizes and supports outstanding early career clinical investigators who are committed to building a career as an academic clinical researcher and to supporting their cancer center’s NCI-funded clinical trials enterprise. The award provides salary support to individuals who do not have independent research grant funding as a Principal Investigator.
Details of the award are below in the related files section. Support is for two years at $70K (total cost) per year. The candidate must be a full-time faculty member, eligible for promotion, and at least two years post last clinical fellowship and no more than six years from initial academic appointment.
DF/HCC may nominate one candidate for this opportunity, and as such requires an internal vetting process to determine which application to put forward, with the following key dates:

- Candidates' expression of interest to DF/HCC: October 7, 2024 (5pm)
- DF/HCC nominated candidate notified: October 13, 2024
- Letter of Intent (LOI) deadline to NCI: October 14, 2024
- Full application deadline to NCI: November 25, 2024 (Internal deadline November 18, 2024)
To be considered for the DF/HCC nomination, candidates should submit an expression of interest by email to Jun-Rong Wei which includes the following items
- NIH Biosketch for candidate
- Letter of support from Department Chair or mentor
- Brief summary of candidate's current and planned involvement in:
- NCI clinical trials
- NCI Trial Network(s) including NCTN, NCORP, ETCTN and CITN
- Other NCI clinical trial-related activities, e.g., NCI Scientific Steering Committees and Task Forces
- DF/HCC Committees such as the IRB, DSMB, and SRC
