CURE Celebrates 20 Years of Education, Excellence and Workforce Equity
The CURE Program started Summer 2002 with just 5 students. Our goal has always been to increase workforce equity in cancer research and STEM. Since then, CURE has placed over 600 Scholars in various research environments throughout the DF/HCC institutions. During their time in the program, our Scholars have spent many hours engaging in cancer research, science education, career development activities and peer to peer networking. Our research training initiative has grown in reach and scope: not only do we offer the CURE Summer Only program to underrepresented high school and undergraduate students, in 2018 two NIH R25 research education grants Young Empowered Scientists for ContinUed Research Engagement (YES for CURE) and Summer Program to Advance Research Careers (SPARC) were successfully funded which expanded our training programs. In the 20 years that we have been providing students access to research spaces, we have seen hundreds of Scholars excel in their education and start careers in research, medicine, industry and beyond.
Please join us as we feature our alumni’s excellence and success every month. I hope it gives you a sense of what we have accomplished and if you are at the beginning of your educational journey, what you can achieve if you join our family.
Please check back for additional updates over the next several months as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the CURE program.
